Why isn't my air conditioner producing cold air?
We rely on air conditioners to keep our homes cold during the summer in Minnesota, when it's hot and humid outside. If your A/C unit fails to produce cold air, it can result in a sweaty, unpleasant experience. There are several reasons why your air conditioning might fail to cool the inside of your house, which include:
- Your air conditioner's refrigerant may be running low, which is probably the result of a leak. Without proper refrigerant levels, your A/C unit will just be blowing air without cooling your home down. Fortunately, an HVAC technician should be able to repair most leaks quickly and easily.
- Your air filters may be clogged with dust and debris. Air filters need to be changed regularly to keep the air inside your house clean and flowing properly. If your A/C unit can't seem to keep your house cool, check your air filters and replace any that are dirty.
- The condenser or evaporator coils in your air conditioning unit may not be working properly. These components will deteriorate naturally over time and can also be inhibited by mold or mildew growth. If this has happened inside your A/C system, you may need to have it repaired or replaced by a trusted HVAC technician in Minnesota.
- One or more of your A/C vents may be clogged or leaking. This usually won't prevent your whole home from being cooled, only individual rooms. If you notice certain rooms never seem to get cooled, a vent issue is likely responsible.
